On 14th October 2021, the Get SET team held a jobs fair at Blackburn Youth Zone, hosted and organised in conjunction with the Employer Advisor Team at JobCentre Plus.
The event was very well attended by young people looking to start their careers, and by 10 employers looking to take on new staff. On the day, we secured 17 new placements and we hope to arrange many more.
We delivered the event as part of our work to promote and support the Kickstart Scheme, which provides funding for employers to create new job placements for 16-24-year-olds. Organisations of any size can apply for the funding, provided that the the jobs that are being created are genuinely new.Gaining experience
The placements agreed at the jobs fair covered starting roles in fields such as business administration, pharmaceutical retail, digital marketing, teaching support, warehousing and customer services. Employers included, amongst others, manufacturers, educational bodies, training specialists, charities and professional services providers.
Speaking after the jobs fair, our Kickstart lead Sara Aslam said: “We’ve organised job fairs before, and this was another great success. We met some wonderful, enthusiastic candidates and we thoroughly enjoyed the event. Helping young people into employment is really fulfilling and absolutely in line with Get SET Academy’s core mission: to create opportunities, add value and change people’s lives for the better.”
